Origin Story

I was for all intents and purposes the second guy in charge of the haunt the years that I was there, Rick Holbrook being the owner of the property and head of production. I came in as a referral from my co-worker Denny McLane after Rick had been already doing the haunt for a few years in a limited technical sense – static lighting and looping audio.

Rick is a Music Industry Producer and has produced and been audio engineer on several soft rock albums. He was in charge of the haunt overall and specifically worked on audio and lighting. I was in charge of show control, video, and special fx, but also had design sway over many other departments such as costuming and set design. Jon was certainly third in charge. He designed many of the most memorable scenes, including the Monk Room and the Xenomorph Lab.

While I made this website and ran huge portions of the haunt, I was still an outsider from Rick’s existing group of about 120 people, who were mostly from his church, I think. I brought in maybe 5 to 10 Disney Imagineers and other theme park people. We were “good” at entertainment specific to fixed venues whereas Rick’s experience lie in Live audio and Audio Recording. He also produced a live show in Iowa every Fourth of July that I heard them talk about, but never attended. I did attend several times but never worked on the Magical Christmas Truck parade in Toluca Lake – which was another thing Rick produced with the same people. That was a lot of fun. Apparently someone has taken this over the last few years.

I worked on the haunt from 1998, only months after moving back to Los Angeles from Orlando, through the 2002 haunt. Rick did not put on the Haunt 2003-2004 and I was fully investing my time in my new company Granite Precision Inc. at that time onward. I did not work on the Haunt again. Rick did invite me to their 2005 showing, which I attended and thought was great – although it had mostly static lighting and looping audio. I did not attend later events and lost touch with Rick and the group and what years they did Riverton afterwards.

Click here to see the site as it was after I stopped editing it in 2004 or so at www.rivertoncemetery.com. Unfortunately this site does not include Riverton 2002, which I have yet to find my original photos of.
